Envision a Mother’s
Sorrow*
The death of
a child
of any age
tosses a
mother’s universe
off its axis
Unfathomable
anguish
tears her
heart,
mind,
every
thing
Memories
languish, linger
in torment
Cozy new-baby
smell
Blushed-apple
cheeks,
Lilting laughter
Her hopes
and dreams
Infused his
air,
A cocoon
surrounding him
If she only
could have protected him now
Her
man-child,
her adult
boy
yet,
her babe.
*Inspired by the tragedies suffered by two mothers who are
dear to me
