Day 20 - OctPoWriMo 2013: Love Letter

Today’s prompt read: “I would like for you to write a love letter but not from you to someone else and not from someone else to you. What I would like for you to do is write a love letter between two inanimate objects.”

This past summer, my writing club, Writers of Kern, honored me with an award for service to the organization. This poem is a love letter from that award to my luggage.

Wall Plaque to Luggage

Where are you going now?
I’m left to hang around
the house alone
Again

Oh, how I miss you when you’re away
Start missing you when you’re out on the bed
Zippers unzipped, empty silken pouches
Waiting for your traveling necessities
I want to scream
What about me

At first you tucked me in for safety
Would have no scratches on my shiny emblem
Rolled me home gently, carefully, lovingly
Tenderly brought me out
Traced my inscription with your fingers
I felt loved then
 I want that
Again
