Day 25 - OctPoWriMo 2013: Four Seasons of Celebration

Today's prompt asked us to think about important celebrations in our lives. My spouse Judy and I have reason to celebrate in each season of the year.

Four Seasons of Celebration

Winter
New Love
bloomed and reigned
Amid holiday holly
And we became one

Summer
Commitment
signified and celebrated by gold rings
chosen, presented with words of love
And we became one

Spring
Vows spoken
promises before witnesses
at the Wedding in the Orchard
Where we became one
‘Til annulled by the state

Fall
Election Day looming
Prop 8 threatening against love’s bond
Our re-wedding in October beat the vote
And we became one
Forever, this time

  1. Everyone should be able to marry the person they love, regardless of gender. Best of luck to you and your beloved.

  2. Ignorance and prejudice is a nasty part of the human race. Awful to have gone through that.

Although, we had to marry twice just to live in Dubai together. Men and women can't live together unless married you see. We had been married for two years (in a legal and beautiful Vegas wedding - Elvis was not invited) but it wasn't accepted. So we did it again, without any fuss. X

  3. Beautiful poem. The seasons representing your journey, with a happy ending.

  4. Very nice. I also like the correlation to the seasons but especially the links between the particular seasons and what they represented in terms of the union. Winter and summer were both certainties (in season and in the union) where spring and fall which are both seasons of change and uncertainty were linked with the uncertainties of whether the government would recognize the marriage. I thought that worked well.

And I'm so glad you got your happy ending! :-)
