Turning 70 makes one take a life review. This poem is a reflection on the last twenty years of my life.
Twenty Years
Engulfed
by the waterfall
of Life
In the wake
of
my 50th birthday season
Gushes of goodness
Cascades of laughter
Sprinklings of distress
Swirls of sorrow
Surges of
creativity
Torrents of contentment
The flow and stream
of seeking
finding
losing
Downpours
of peace
The life-force
of love
An entire flume of feelings
in
hindsight.
Eyes fixed on seventy.

This is a beautiful stream of expressions Annis :) A painting in words!

DeleteLovely... the words, the shape, and the waterfall I grew up with.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun playing with the shape. Thanks for your sweet words, Morgan. xoA
DeleteI too like the shape of it, its sculpt...and I especially love that you put "in hindsight" in the tiny print...the size of it mimicking the expression...because don't we always back off on the volume when we say that...in hindsight? As always, very nice. :-)
ReplyDeleteAnna, thank you. Your comments always help me see things I hadn't noticed in my own poetry. xoA
