Day 1 - OctPoWriMo 2013: Autumn Morning Ride

I emerge at first light
It’s crisp but dry. Quite
a good sign
these storm-fraught days
I see dry rain gear
 though clouds of gray
threaten, menace
In my path
shimmering oranges, golds, reds,
distant dazzling leaves
wait for me to pass

  1. You've built a lovely sense of anticipation with this poem. Very nice. I'm especially fond of alliteration so you will not be surprised when I tell you I loved the distant dazzling leaves. :-)

    1. Thanks, Anna. I appreciate your comment. And, I'm sure you won't be surprised to know that I laid in bed this morning thinking of how I might have added something else to this poem. It never fails. xoA

    2. I was just thinking, the three of us are all in Bakersfield. Perhaps we should get together IN PERSON (wow!) and talk poetry, life, creative process, OctPoWriMo or whatever else our creative hearts desire! Let me know what you think!

    3. Sounds like fun! Why doesn't someone throw out a few dates and we can see if our calendars match anywhere. I am going to be away the week of Oct. 21-28. xoA

  2. Oh, Annis. This is absolutely lovely. It reminds me of a meditation, a prayer, a moment of pure gratitude for what is...

    1. Thank you, Julie. I'm happy to be involved again this year. My goal is "doing better than I did last year." And, I sure appreciate the prompts, inspiration, and tips you and the rest of the group provide. xoA

  3. Lovely poem, just right for welcoming fall with a 'dazzling' array of images. I loved this one, and it's very nice to be reading each other's work again. Write on!
