Power of the Pen
I understood the power
of the pen
my eighth grade year
when I wrote that
petition
on behalf of all the
girls,
called for a school
policy change.
We just want to have an
opportunity
We just want to retain
our dignity
We just want to have a
choice
We just want to play
soccer,
to have the chance to
shine.
Writing meant speaking
up
Signing meant standing
up
Listening meant opening
up
Saying "yes"
meant evolution
And when the "yes" came
we felt heard.
.
We recognized our power,
and reveled in it.
Love it Annis, such conviction and strength ❤

ReplyDeleteI too loved soccer. I too am a strong and loud advocate for women's/girls rights. Have been from a young age.
Thank you for reminding me of those times.
