Day 16 - OctPoWriMo 2013: The Last Word

Our prompt for today began:  "We've all had those moments when we have something on our mind, but for some reason we hold back." And, we were invited to write a poem of something that we've wanted to say -- "the last word" or "things left unsaid."

The Last Word

Forgive me, old friend.
Enemies, fear and distress,
Kindled unkind acts

Robbed us of friendship
Destined disappearance, sad
Years, empty, bereft

Forgive me, old friend.
I missed your life, my loss, true,
Now I understand.

  1. "Enemies, fear and distress, kindled unkind acts..." I think we've all been there...and I love this line...all those lovely k sounds...kindled unkind acts.

    1. Thank you, Anna. Yes, I'm sure we have all been there. Fear makes us do terrible things -- to ourselves and others. As always, I love your comments. xoA

  2. The form and your words allow this to be succinct yet powerful. Exceptional.

    1. Thanks, Shah. I was going for succinct. The feelings are deep, and I didn't want to get into too much detail and flowery-ness. I so appreciate your comments. xoA
